Worked examples

Worked examples of the questions we answer: spend, supplier performance and reporting. Fictional companies and data.

These are worked examples with fictional companies and data. They show the kind of question, method and output each service delivers. They are not client results.

Where does our money go? A distributor's spend review

The question. A fictional building-products distributor, “Northgate Supplies”, buys from about 400 suppliers. The finance director suspects the same items are bought from several suppliers at different prices.

What we would do. Load 18 months of purchase-ledger lines, clean and match supplier names, classify spend into categories, and compare prices for the same items across suppliers.

What the client receives. A Power BI spend picture by supplier, category and month; a list of duplicate suppliers; and savings opportunities with an estimated value and the evidence for each.

Service: Spend Analysis & Savings Review.

Which suppliers let us down? A manufacturer's scorecard

The question. A fictional components manufacturer, “Brookfield Precision”, has late deliveries but argues with suppliers about whose fault each one is.

What we would do. Agree a KPI framework with the client (on time in full, quality, price, responsiveness), then score each key supplier from purchase orders, receipts and returns.

What the client receives. A scorecard rating each supplier A–D, a one-page review pack per supplier for the next supplier meeting, and simple escalation rules.

Service: Supplier Performance Review.

Why does reporting take so long? A month-end pack that refreshes itself

The question. A fictional food wholesaler, “Harbour Fresh”, spends three days each month copying figures from its accounting system into a spreadsheet pack.

What we would do. Connect the accounting and stock exports to a Power BI model, rebuild the pack as a report, and schedule the refresh.

What the client receives. The same pack, refreshed automatically each morning, with the numbers traceable back to their source; and, optionally, a Care Plan to keep it running.

Service: Power BI Dashboard & Reporting.
